Members of NYCoRE have organized workshops on teacher activism, high stakes testing, counter-military recruitment, and school safety for conferences and teacher groups. Being an all-volunteer organization NYCoRE is always interested in providing workshops when possible. Advanced notice is advised.

Educator as Activist Workshop

What roles can "educators" assume in the struggle for a more just world and more just schooling? What does it mean to be an educator-activist? These are the central questions driving the New York Collective of Radical Educator's (NYCoRE) workshop "Educator-Activists." Participants will work to identify some of the social-political forces that foster injustice in schools and then generate potential forms of actions that educators can enact to impact our schools and communities.

You Wanna Pay Me For What?
A Workshop and Discussion on Merit Pay

Come learn about one of the more insidious facets of the attack on teachers and teaching. Find out why "Merit" based formulas for paying teachers are both an attack on unions and a push by the forces of privatization/corporatization towards scripted, test-based curriculum. Share how this is already, or will soon be, effecting your teaching practice and your students directly. Together we will analyze this issue and create strategies for resistance.

Looking through the Camouflage

This workshop is designed for youth and educators to interrogate the explore how the military uses myths and false promises as recruitment tactics. Participants will then have an opportunity to experience one lesson from NYCoRE's curricular resource Camouflaged to help them formulate ways to interrupt the militarization of their schools and communities.
